Why are people, especially Asians, so..eerie about the idea of a bucket list? And even dismissive when it comes to pursuing some of those goals? o--0

Why does it only make sense to them if someone on a death bed raises the idea?... I mean surely we're ALL going to die one day or another and it makes more sense to follow those "before-I-die-goals" while you're fit and healthy than what generally tends to happens....... right?

I mean.. why the bias man?

Boxing day = Christmas for Asians. Damn yo, they ain't leaving no bargain regardless of the freezing temperature outside.

So, I opt not to go shopping on boxing day because you know the kind of crowd makes me reeeally really uncomfortable o--0 ...but how do you dodge the crazy shoppers if you're actually working on the day and are in a worse position being on the other end of all their passive aggression?

Hijabi Fashion Week - Rule Breakers

My take on today's theme is print-on-print-on-print. The outfit I've put together incorporates aztec print, animal print and snake skin print giving the whole look a lot of texture and character. I've kept the colours minimum to four so not to overpower the robust yet glamourous look I have going :P

November is very very hektic crazy.
It's gotten very very cold all of a sudden - let's blame global warming.
Sometimes juggling a lot of things all at once can freak you out - this is why you should use your journal Roshni!
It is good to check up on friends - it is not so good if it's always you checking up on them and not the other way around.
Winter clothes are snuggly - but summer clothes are flowy. I don't know which wardrobe I like more o--0
Sisters are Gods' gift to you - you just have to figure out how to use it/them well because it doesn't take long before the gift turns to your very own nurtured headache ......:P I love 'em really!
Procrastination will not get you far.. *gets back to studying*

Hijabi Fashion Week - Recreation

Today's theme is recreation and one of the things I love doing when I am free is cooking!.. This little hobby of mine particularly got hands on when my parents went on holiday leaving me to feed the kids and so began the saga of experimentation - exactly the opportunity the scientist in me was deprived of -muahaha- .....So the bunch of us would go grocery shopping and with the familiar..safe..ingredients, we'd also pick up things that always made us go ..Yea, no joke..things like avocados and asparagus are pretty much overlooked in our desi cuisine - obviously when we tried it, we figured why ^____^ ..no offence to asparagus lovers obviously... So anyway, the 3 months without mommy and daddy gave me the chance to flourish my cooking skills and its something I enjoy now more than a task :P ..The outfit I've put together is reflective of what I would normally be most comfortable in and is definitely appropriate for cooking.

-casual tee - I like mine with cute print ^.^
-knitwear shrug to go over the tee
-Ballet pumps
-cute apron
-butterfly ring
-polka dotted scarf - pops the outfit while the the colours black/white keeps it subtle

My chosen role is that of a teacher and it's close to my heart because of the high regard Islam gives them but also because my dearest grandmother was a teacher ..and I guess having been a part of her experience makes the role of a teacher that much more special to me. As a student myself, I know exactly the kind of influence my teachers have had one me and I hope one day, I can share half as much knowledge and wisdom with the little ones I teach =P

The outfit I have put together on Polyvore consists of a:
-long sleeve black undershirt
-batwing purple top
-beige wide leg trousers
-leopard print scarf
-black ankle boots
-a diamante bracelet
-black shoulder bag

It is practicle as well as smart and ofcourse modest without compromising on style or going OTT.

October Ramblings....

Awesome person The.Me said that I should blog even during the happy days - which is pretty common sense kinda thing but I guess I just tend to be more vocal when I am not. so happy. Sooo....thaaaat was a good reminder! I mean, I don't wanna' look back and read and think to myself "wow was I a grumpy person" ..'cuz you know Im not writing about the good days so all that's left is.. struggle - and that would be so inaccurate. Life alhamdullilah is good right now. I am not the wisest person I know, but I can sure tell good from bad and I have figured it's better to cherish the good while you have. To the fullest. To live every moment of that goodness. Part of that comes from Greys Anatomy - season 8 is going at such a perfect pace! Also I don't know if I mentioned but going back to school is freakin' awesome - I had no idea what I was going to do after graduating so this has been a good surprise. which I gave to myself ^.^..yaayness! October has also been a month of rebonding - friends I thought weren't actually friends have been closer than before without any expectation. The whole thing's pretty cute =P .. It's now approaching the end of the month, weather's gotten chilly but there's a sense of warmth - like it hasn't been for a long time.

I totally skipped September.

I just realized I haven't done the traditional monthly post for July..so here it is -_- If I had to describe it in a word, it'd be INTENSE. Yeah. That's not entirely good you know.............

Had my graduation while members of my family took turns to get admitted at the hospital. Bunch of interviews that physically drained me out. Some emotional issues too. So yeah, intense would be it.

Anyhooo...Ramadhan is here. That's going to make the following month no less intense either. 18 hours long day without food/water..but more importantly the reflection that comes with fasting in Ramadhan. The struggle it takes to be patient and tolerant... I mean I didn't think I wasn't tolerant but huge..er..revelation there. Mark my words, you guys -nodnod- ...Besides that, Ramadhan brings back memories. Intense memories. Am I looking forward to those?..meh, I am not so sure... KHERRRR, I would like to take the opportunity to wish you all a very blessed Ramadhan and remember me in your prayers. Oh and happy taraweeeh too (ever before did you think you were that unfit?) =/..

...a month of heart ache and heart break... and I know sometimes it's a lot harder to find the silver linning in your dark cloud of a life but we must remember things could be worse.. beyond our imagination worse. God forbid, losing people you love to death kind of worse. So maybe its wiser to be grateful in whatever you get..and you know...make do with it.. suck it up... -shrug...no other choice....

Secondly, Shab-e-Miraaj Mubarak to all the Muslims out there (to everybody else, boo ya :P). Please remember me in your prayers... May Allah (swt) forgive us all, have mercy on us, protect us and guide us to the right path.

Coke studio raving cont.

Episode 3 is up on Coke Studio's official website (for free audio/video download) and their youtube channel. Reviews of the previous two episodes can be found on SW's blog [I've posted specific links here]. Apart from H, the only other person I know remotely excited about the whole thing is D - and that's what I want to get to in this post, more or less o-0 .........So khair, one of my favourites from this week's episode is the performance by Jal. Now I've been following Atif Aslam from the days when Jal was a band consisting of Atif, Gohar, Haider and Omer. So obviously if you knew the actual..er..set of events..that resulted in the splitting of the band, you had to take a side.. ^.^ .....Point being, I hadn't heard a lot of (unoriginal) Jal apart from the videos they released. Then I heard their first performance of Ik Arzu on Coke Studio and it didn't do much for me you know, I thought Farhan didn't do well on the low notes, there was nothing "special" about the performance and the transition into the Bulleh Shah kalam made the whole thing worse. In fact, they wrecked Dam Mast Qalander. Well, I have to say they've redeemed their selves with the following performance in this episode:

Apparently Panchi is one of their old songs and they went ahead and fused it with a classic, Tere Ishq Mein by Allan Fakir and Mohammed Ali Sheikh (which almost gives me the feeling of Hum Mustafavi Hain by Mehdi Zaheer.. I have no idea whether both songs are from the same span of time? - too lazy to research). Anyhooo...I know there are people butchering Gohar for "ruining" Tere Ishq Mein but I personally think Gohar did the performance justice including the transition in to the second song - props to Rohail Hayat for the execution. What made the performance even special is the contribution of Quratulain =o What a star! I really wish they had given her more of an opportunity to perform and I hope there is a solo in the pipeline but her voice really gave this performance that extra little..oomph! This performance is food for soul, melodious and effortlessly brilliant. The house band as always delivered and Gumby, my man was on fire! Anybody knows if he's married?.. So anyway, Im gonna' stop here and let you explore it on your own and Im not going to comment on its lyrical content because Im gonna' share THIS POST by D at News You Can't Use [- ha, the irony :P] instead. Kinda gutted its taken me this long to post it up but you must must must read it because it really hits home. Simple and spot on and I couldn't have put it better myself.

Pakistan: Where are your not-very-beautiful women? And I suppose I speak on behalf of girls (and in few cases, men) everywhere when I ask: Where are your not-very-handsome menfolk? (Is being a maulana the only career choice for them?)

Reminder: Both my parents belong from a punjabi background and although while growing up they spoke to us in Urdu, overtime it's reached a point where they now converse in a mixture of Punjabi/Urdu and we reply back in a mixture of Urdu/English..... It works out okay only it also means I have the best urdu advantage at home, readily translating punjabi to urdu and english to urdu. The Indian channels only make my linguistic skills more diverse.. in short meaning I win - hands down ^___________^

PS: All my fears are genuine.

This is just to say that... o-0.. SW has done reviews of the first two episodes of this season so far (EP1 here and EP2 here). Sooo...I got carried away and commented my take on her blog. I would've done it here except nobody showed any interest, but yea... Yaay for SW. Kindly check out the mini-amateur-reviews on her blog and maybe we can all exchange views/opinions et al. Nahi tau na sahi :P .....This is just so you know..you can't say you didn't know. As Humaira's dad says..it's not not knowing that's bad, it's not knowing and then not taking other's advice on it that's bad ...o-0.. or something along the lines. ^_____________^

...a month of emotional rollercoaster. It's not how I wanted things to turn out, but that's what was planned for me I guess.. Am I believer of destiny then? I don't know..let's leave that for another post. What I really want to say is that my perspective on a few things has changed a lot these past few months. I'm thankful for the little moments and I'm thankful even in the sad ones for what I have, despite everything. It's not optimism and it's not because I'm so happy-go-lucky looking at the brighter things in life...In fact, its the sheer realization that there's always things that can go bad. If they're bad, they can always get worse. It all hurts the same..but to be all "suck suck suck" is only pushing your luck :P ...and don't even get me started on luck.

Michelangelo once said the best way to judge the essential elements of a sculpture is to throw it down the hill and the unimportant pieces will break away. We're kind of like that sculpture right?..What's left of us at the end of all the struggle and pain and loss is what we get to be for the rest of our life. The best part of us...the strongest part of us.

When I was growing up, my parents made sure curse words were not used in the household [like most parents would, I assume?]..So until I started going to school, I had no idea about the kind of words the general public used as adjectives to express their..er..unhappiness?..And since I attended a force school, it wasn't just the discipline that ensured appropriate conduct but also the background of most students was similar to mine in the way that most of them were too kept in dark about this particular variety of vocabulary and were just...oblivious. *shrug*..So khairr......then obviously we grew up and faced the horrors of the world individually, in our time.

The point being, 20 years on, I still feel like I am behind..as far as curse words are concerned and it's slightly worrisome because I am an adult, I can't be oblivious anymore otherwise people would walk all over me o-----0.... Last night my friend sent me a text talking about his friend who applied for medicine, here's what went on:

H: Shareef is so baiymaan, he'll be a doctor in choot >_<

[I obviously didn't know what "choot" was, so I went ahead and googled it]

R: He wants to be an OB/GYN? ..[..for the non-medics like my friend H, that's Obstretics and Gynaecology *rolls eyes*]

H: I didn't get that last bit? What gym? o--0

R: A gynaecologist?

H: No. He wants to be a general practitioner o--0 ..why're you asking me all this out of no where?

R: 'cuz ..um..you said he's gonna' be a doctor in "choot"..so I figured..err....yea....nevermind.

Read this somewhere as an answer to what guys/grooms expect from thier big wedding day..extravaganza..I suppose?..I must say I was a little taken aback by the sheer detail, so Im going to share. HA! ..

For my wedding (whenever that happens) i have specific ideas which i wish to implement. i would also like my partner to have an insight and have a joint take on things rather than it be a dictatorship. Throughout the whole wedding i would want a VERY LIMITED number of children as they mess up the whole event. crying, breaking things, casusing havoc and its just something that i would not want. imagine me and my bride walking together in the hall and 3 or 4 kids running past us or making faces when stood behind us. totally uncool. I would want me and my wife to be colour coordinated and would want our colours to be exclusive. for example, if me and my mrs are wearing white and yellow on the mehndo, wouldnt want anyone else to be wearing the same colour clothes. sorry to be selfish but its our day, you can wear the same colour clothes another day. I would want my family to be visible throughout the whole wedding event and not run around so will be hiring a wedding planner who will oversee all that. that way everything runs smoothly and people like my mum, dad, aunties, brothers, sisters are with me where it matters. I will have the best hire cars to make the baraat stand out. in pakistan there are a shortage of prestige cars but will get them from somehwere to have that x facor. I would like the mehdni done at home (joint mehndi for the bride and the groom) and have my side and her side do orchestrated dances. Wedding day will be at a hall or a restaurant with food served by waiters. i have seen countless asian wedding in pakistan where its a bufffet system and people eat like donkeys. Have professional photographers who only take pictures of immediate family and key moments to make the wedding album extrra special. Walima would be me and the wife driving to the hall in a convertable with me driving and her by my side. Would do all the rasms such as Maanya, Karoli, Chatti, Ghaana etc to make it a fun filled event. I would have all my friends fly out and not have nayone miss my event. Go on a honeymoon to dubai and spend our first night after being married in a hotel room and not have a the typical tacky fake flowers out around the bed.

....thats my preferance. dont ask for much do i? lol

..........And I thought it was the ladies who went crazy with the whole deal -amazed-

If you're Pakistani (..or cricket crazy), you must've heard about the no-ball-spot-fixing malarchy that allegedly took place during a test match between England and Pakistan... So the accused players include Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir.....
Today we'll be focusing..nope, not on the whats and the whys of the whole situation, not even on Pakistani cricket as it has been lately...instead..we're gonna' have a look at the video below and umm..let Miss Veena Malik do all the talking (..it seems to be her forte -cough-) ...
